Going Green: Five High Schools Get a Boost with Energy Upgrades

Going Green: Five High Schools Get a Boost with Energy Upgrades

El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) continues to make big strides with comprehensive energy upgrades at five high school sites. Located in El Monte, California, the district employs over 1,200 staff members and provides educational programs to over 10,000 students in grades 9-12.

With the vision to empower and motivate their students to be college and career-ready lifelong learners, EMUHSD ensures that its operations are safe, effective, and resilient. They aim to provide a conducive learning environment for students, educators, and staff.

With SoCalREN Public Agency Programs support, EMUHSD implemented facility upgrades across five high school sites, modernizing HVAC systems to save money and improve thermal comfort and air quality. SoCalREN also provided the district with a technical review of a battery energy storage project proposal, giving the district the confidence necessary to move forward with battery installations across three high school sites.  Check out the project outcomes below!

With SoCalREN’s no-cost support and expertise, the district will reduce its carbon emissions, equivalent to 1,174 cars taken off the road, and save over $130,000 annually!

Lena Luna, EMUHSD’s Facility and Energy Manager (and San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments 2022 Energy Leader of the Year! 🙌), was integral to achieving this project. Lena used SoCalREN as an extension of their staff and put their trust in our engineering analysis and project management expertise.

We're honored to support El Monte Union High School District's efforts to provide staff and students with high-quality learning environments. We look forward to seeing their progress and supporting future energy projects!
