Congratulations to the City of Santa Paula for walking the path to Zero Net Energy!

Congratulations to the City of Santa Paula for walking the path to Zero Net Energy!

SoCalREN recently partnered with the City of Santa Paula to investigate distributed energy resources (DER) and energy efficiency potential across the city! By analyzing over 100 electricity meters city-wide, SoCalREN provided a solar feasibility analysis to help the agency identify solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage system, and electric vehicle (EV) charging opportunities.

In addition to Santa Paula's clean energy ramp-up, SoCalREN also identified energy efficiency measures across multiple facilities. These measures include lighting retrofits and HVAC replacements at various sites as well as upgrades within their water recycling facility. Should the City of Santa Paula proceed with these recommendations, the agency can expect to produce energy savings of over 550,000 kWh citywide from energy efficiency measures and reduce total annual energy cost by over $117,000 from DER measures. We're excited to continue our partnership with Santa Paula by providing no-cost energy services as they move forward with their sustainability efforts!

Project Details:

  • Proposed measures: Solar PVs, EV charging stations, battery energy storage system, lighting and HVAC retrofits, and water system upgrades;
  • Potential city-wide energy savings from energy efficiency measures: 552,145 kWh;
  • Total kWh on-bill savings from energy efficiency measures: 881,256 kWh;
  • Greenhouse gas impacts from EV charging stations: 148 cars taken off the road;
  • Potential cost savings from Solar PV & BESS: $117,900 annually; and,
  • Feasibility study timeline: July 2021 - December 2021;

This project with Santa Paula was made possible by SoCalREN’s Pathway to Zero program,  which helps underserved communities drive comprehensive energy projects forward and produce clean energy on-site. Contact your SoCalREN Project Manager to learn more!
